Grease Trap Cleaning

What Is a Grease Trap and Why Is It Important to Clean It?

Commercial kitchens contain a lot of moving parts: refrigerators, freezers, ovens, warming stations, ventilation hoods, and so much more. One of the lesser-mentioned but vitally important components of a commercial kitchen is the grease trap. At Commercial Grease Trap Cleaning Corp., we know the value of a properly maintained grease trap. To keep your Indianapolis kitchen in top working order, regular grease trap cleaning is a must.

What Is a Grease Trap?

Passive grease traps are metal or plastic tanks that prevent fats, oil, and grease (FOG) from entering the sanitary sewer or septic system. Grease traps collect wastewater from sinks and dishwashers, and act as a holding tank for wastewater and FOG. As the FOG cools and solidifies, it floats to the top of the tank, food particles sink to the bottom, and the residual wastewater proceeds to the sewer or septic tank.

Clogs and Buildup

By law, commercial grease traps must be emptied when the FOG occupies 25% of the tank. Unfortunately, it is difficult to measure the amount of grease and food debris inside of the tank, making a clog inevitable without regular maintenance. As the grease trap reaches capacity, more and more FOG flows into the sewer, leading to a clogged greased trap and clogged drains. This ultimately leads to backed up sinks and drains that can smell and create safety code violations.

Grease Trap Pumping

To prevent grease trap and sewer drain clogs, we recommend investing in quarterly grease trap cleaning services. Our experienced technicians will fully pump the contents of your grease trap, making sure to remove all water and greasy residue. We will also clean the walls of the tank where grease tends to build up over time. By investing in regular grease trap cleaning services, you are effectively preventing clogs from slowing you down in the future.
